My Busy Little Elves

We've been busy!

(Oops...forgot to get a pic of both kiddos putting "kisses" on each of these delicious works of art.)

Shh... working on a project for Great Grandma!

We also opened stockings tonight since we'll be headed to Ohio this week.

Celebrating Advent. (Weeks 2-4)

 Week 2:
  • We lit our second candle.  This week's focus was on the angels.
  • Our scripture was Luke 1:26-31:  God sent an angel, Gabriel, to Nazareth a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledge to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David.  The virgin's name was Mary.  The angel went to her and said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored!  The Lord is with you! .... Do not be afraid, Mary!  You have found favor with God!  You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus."
  • We added the angel to our stable, and later in the week we sang "Hark the Herald Angels Sing", and the kiddos each made an angel using a cone-shaped dixie cup, foil, and crayons.  We also discussed other stories in scripture where angels appeared such as Daniel and the lions den.

Week 3:

  • We lit our third candle.  This week's focus was on the Bethlehem.
  • Our scripture was Luke 2: 1-5:  In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world... and everyone went to their own town to register.  So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem, the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.  He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.

  • We added Mary and Joseph, an empty manger, and animals to the stable and later in the week we sang "O Little Town of Bethlehem".  I had other ideas in mind for this week but we never got to them... : (

Week 4 (Plus the Christmas candle):

  • We lit our fourth candle as well as the Christmas candle in the middle since we won't be home for Christmas.  This week's focus was on the Jesus's birth as well as the shepherds.
  • Our scripture was Luke 2: 6-20

  • We added Baby Jesus to the manger as well as the shepherds and sheep.  We plan on singing lots of songs this week including "Joy to the World!", "What Child is This", "Silent Night", and "Away in a Manger".  This week we keep the activities simple to focus on Jesus's birth.  And of course, we look forward to being with family to celebrate together!
