Sophie was in the mood to use her safety goggles the other day so we pulled out a science experiment I had been saving for a "rainy" day (Thanks, Mom!).
We began with 3 cups of warm water, 3 color tabs of red, blue, and yellow, and a packet of crystals.
After pouring the crystals in each of the cups they began to GROW!
By the time Lucas got home from school the crystals had grown to be about the size of dice.
Next we put them in this cylinder container- first red, then blue, finally yellow.
After several hours we poured the crystals out onto some wax paper...and the kids went crazy!
A rainbow of colors!!! We sorted all the colors- we had red, pink, purple, blue, green, and yellow!
Two cool things: I asked Lucas why we had all the colors of the rainbow except orange. He thought about it a bit, looked at the crystals, then figured out it was because red never touched yellow.
Another cool thing: The cylinder container the crystals went in is actually a plastic 2-liter pop container-- before it's blown up into it's shape. Very cool.
