Happy First Day of Summer!!

To ring in the first day of summer, let's celebrate with a rather random assortment of pics from the past two weeks!!  Ready...set...GO!

A tradition at Carmel St. V Hospital is the newborn gets a birthday cake to celebrate their Birth Day.  Obviously, Brady couldn't partake, but Nali was here to help us celebrate and enjoy the cake together!
 Photo Shoot...

Brady's very first trip:  Noblesville Farmers Market
It was pretty hot, and the big kids were clearly not thrilled about posing for this pic.  "The sun is too bright!!!"
I just had to capture some pictures of our tiny babe in his car seat.
I figured before long he'll be filling it out!  :(

Enjoying a treat from Great Grandma Rupp- fresh-baked bread, G-Grandma's specialty!

Enjoying a sunny day outside on the porch with Grandma and Grandpa
This is what you call a photo bomb.  :)  I was trying to get a pic of Soph.

Sophie and Lucas are always so helpful with Brady.  As you see below, Sophie thought Brady looked lonely so she brought some animal friends for him.
The kids have done a wonderful job of entertaining themselves and each other when Eric and I are busy with Brady.  I came out of my room recently to find both of them on the couch reading... had to snap the pic, it was so cute!
Our dear friends, the Gibbs, brought dinner over and visited for a bit.  Parker was quick to volunteer to hold Brady a bit!  He was SO good with him!
Yes Brady, boys ARE awesome... especially the ones that live in this house!
The kids, sorting my button collection together...
My first outing with all kids on my own:  strawberry picking at Spencer Farms!
We had a great time and there were SO MANY berries to pick.  The older two kids had their own baskets and collected quite a few!

Both kids (especially Sophie!) ate their fair share of berries... at the end, Sophie's basket was fairly empty!  (see below)

And we couldn't leave Brady out of the pictures-- to prove that he was there with us!

**More random pics to come!!**

Brother & Sister Love.

Lucas and Sophie love being close to Brady.  They especially like it when he's awake and surprisingly don't mind too much when he's crying.  They do show concern at times but for the most part don't seem bothered.

One word:  paparazzi.  :)

Sweet Little Bug.

We can't get enough of this little man.
Thankful for lazy summer days so we can just hang out and enjoy these three kiddos, all day long!

Good-bye Kindergarten...Hello First Grade!

**Kindergarten Graduation took place May 22nd...just now getting around to posting pics from it**

It's hard to believe this time last year Lucas was graduation from Preschool! Now we have a Kindergarten graduate!!

Shaking hands with Mrs. Stock, Mr. Phares, and Mrs. Dietsch.  Bittersweet.  Lucas is really going to miss his TME teachers and friends next year.  He'll be attending Monon Trail next year (Westfield) since I will be taking some time off from teaching.

Miss Dolby's class

Lucas,
We're SO PROUD of you, buddy.  You worked hard this year, made some great friends, and learned a lot along the way.  My favorite thing you learned... how to read.  I just love listening to you read and how happy it makes you.  One extra special thing about this year was seeing you out and about in the halls and around the school.  It was pretty special for me to have you at my school this year.  I loved popping in on things like recess, class parties, gingerbread house-making, math class, and field day festivities.  It was also fun having you come into my room at 2:30 after a long hard day of work... seeing you at the end of the school day sure put a big smile on my face (not to mention the faces of my students!  They adored you!)  And now... you're going to be a first grader!  My how time flies.  I can't wait to see what next year has in store for you...but until then.... bring on SUMMER!!!  :)

We love you, Lucas, and are so very proud of you!

XOXO,
Mom and Dad

Brady's First Visitors...

We spent two days at the hospital and were eager to introduce Brady to some special people.

Of course, his first visitors were Big Brother and Big Sister.  Their reaction walking in the room was absolutely priceless.  The picture below is my new all-time favorite.  They both walked in with big bright smiles and were cautiously quiet and gentle.  I'll admit... this all was a little surprising to me.

Both kiddos took turns holding Brady.  I just love the pic below... Sophie immediately climbed up in bed with me and put out her hands.

And Big Brother showing off his best smile ever-- finally!  Another basketball player in the family!

...peeking at Brady's little toes...

Meeting Grandma for the first time!

Our dear friends, Todd and Kristy Hagemeier, along with their two kiddos, popped in Sunday morning.

Amanda!  I see many get-togethers with "Aunt" Amanda and the 3 kids.  Amanda is well known in our family as "Amanda- the s'mores girl"

Kristen!  Lucas's Oreo friend

Carrie! (Is Brady too young to take a dip in your pool this summer???)

Paul and Jacque- our wonderful friends from church.

Grandma and the kids came back for Round Two on Monday.  They couldn't wait to hold Brady again...and visit the snack room.  (Not sure which they were more excited about!)

Also, not pictured.... Kim, Nick, Hudson, Maggie, and Stew.  Thanks to all of our friends who dropped by to meet Brady.  This week Grandpa and Nali are also coming over and on Sunday Brady gets to meet my Taylor girls... the excitement isn't slowing down any time soon!!  Love showing this little guy off.

This post is for me...

There are so many moments from Saturday that I want to look back and remember... part of me is actually sad that over time... I forget things... and I don't ever want to forget the emotions and events from this special day.  Here are just a few things-- some rather small to many, but big to me...

**Funny story (Now, at least.  Not then.)  After shopping in Meijer and starting to have some fairly significant contractions, I got in line to checkout and was waiting behind one person.  Behind me walks a couple with only 4 items.  I debated for awhile whether I should let them in front of me... after all, I was in a good amount of pain BUT it felt like the right thing to do.  So I insisted on them going in front of me.  Here's the funny part.  When it's their turn to check out, come to find out, they know the cashier and they strike up a conversation and chat away... while I'm there...still in line... still having contractions about every 7-8 minutes.  I seriously had to laugh to myself at how funny the whole situation was.

**It's a mystery when my water broke.  Apparently when we got to the hospital and the nurse did her initial check, my water had already broken.  When?  Who knows!  Doctors always say, you'll know when/if your water breaks.  Well, apparently not.  My theory is, it broke when I took my shower just before leaving for the hospital because that's when contractions started to get really strong.  When Sophie was born, once Dr. Mernitz broke my water, that too, was when my intense contractions really began.

**Eric is a wicked-fast driver when he wants to be.  : )  All while being safe of course...

**Right after Brady was born, a few things struck me as funny--
1- In all of the pics of right after the delivery you'll notice I'm still wearing my normal clothes under the hospital gown.  The nurses also didn't have time to put in an IV so I lucked out on not getting pricked!
2-  Eric had to go move the car!  It was still parked in front of the main doors in the carport.  Haha... he never had a chance to park.  Glad we didn't get a ticket!

**The first night I got less than an hour of sleep.  I think it was because my heart was still racing... plus, I didn't want the nurse to take Brady to the nursery.  I was pretty (okay, very) protective of him and was paranoid that something would go wrong and I'd be sound asleep and miss something.  I remember distinctly thinking his breathing was so incredibly quiet and undetectable... I kept checking on him (he was in a bassinette right beside my bed).

Dear Brady,

***This post was written during our last few hours in the hospital... at this exact time, Brady... you and Daddy are snuggled up on the couch watching ESPN's Around the Horn.  I'm not sure which one of you is happier... : )

On the day you were born...

It started as any other normal Saturday.  Lucas and Sophie woke up around 7, played in the living room a bit, fixed themselves a scrumptious breakfast of peanut butter & graham crackers, and Daddy and I rolled out of bed somewhere around 8ish.  It was a stormy and rainy evening/morning which led to your brother's 9:30 AM baseball game being cancelled.  I was secretly happy about this because it meant we had nothing going on...just hang-out time at home.

Throughout the morning we read several books, wrestled a bit in the living room, Daddy and I did some odd jobs around the house, and just hung around.  I had 5-6 very mild contractions throughout the morning, but nothing that seemed concerning.

Daddy fixed mac and cheese and bologna sandwiches for us for lunch while I read books on the couch to Lucas and Sophie.  Your brother and sister laid down for a nap around 1:00 and I decided to as well.

Around 2:00 I woke up to some more contractions but still none that really were bothersome.  I decided since I had already had several though, it was time to start writing down and timing the contractions and their intensity.  Falling asleep and taking a nap seemed out of the question by now so around 3:00 I got up, made a grocery list, and decided to head to Meijer to get some groceries.  We had quite a few groceries to get, including diapers for you which we hadn't bought yet and we figured it might be time to get some.

**On the way to Meijer I called Grandma, told her about the contractions and warned her that I   might be calling back to have her come down if the contractions seemed to get more intense.  She was planning all along to stay with your brother and sister while Daddy and I were with you in the hospital.  I also called Paul and Jacque and our neighbors Carol and Lisa as these were both our plan A and B to watch Lucas and Sophie until Grandma got to our house.  I just warned them that they may be getting a call later that evening.

3:45:  I get to Meijer.  As I'm walking in I have my first contraction that makes me stop in my tracks a bit and catch my breath.  I decide to continue timing and writing down the contractions.

3:50-4:50:  I walk around Meijer getting groceries while having irregular contractions around 5-15 minutes apart- nothing too painful or long-lasting.

4:50:  I'm in the checkout line and having a pretty hard contraction that made my legs feel numb for a bit.  At this point I thought to myself... "I may just have to ditch my cart!"  I didn't though-- paid, loaded up the groceries, and hopped in the car.

5:00: I immediately texted this message to Daddy:  "On way home.  Contractions making my legs numb when walking around  Could be real thing."  I called Grandma on the way home and went ahead and asked her to come on down- apologizing ahead of time if it was a false alarm and wasn't the real deal.

5:25:  Home.  Daddy unpacked groceries while I took a very quick shower.  I was starting to have harder contractions so I wanted to hurry so I could lay down.  Daddy continued writing down contractions while also packing a hospital bag.

5:50:  Daddy convinced me it was time to call the on-call doctor which happened to be Dr. Mernitz, one of my favorite doctors (who delivered your sister!).  When I told him I hadn't had a lot of progress at my last Dr. appt. (2 cm) he sounded a little disappointed and gave us the option to come in to the hospital or stay home a bit and wait it out.  We decided to go ahead and head to the hospital.

6:05:  Carol and Madi come over to watch Lucas and Sophie.  Daddy put a $20 on the counter for them to order pizza and we quickly headed out the door.

6:11-6:35: Drive to Carmel St. Vincent Hospital- This is when Mommy had some VERY BIG contractions-- one right after another- without any relief.  I didn't even get a chance to text anyone saying we were on the way to the hospital.  I was in too much pain.

6:36: We arrive at the carport, Daddy got a wheelchair (I couldn't walk!), and we headed up the elevator to the 3rd floor.  The nurse took us into the triage room and began the paperwork, but when she saw I was in so much pain she decided to check to see how I was progressing.
Nurse:  Wow.  You're at 10 cm and he's right there.  You're going to have a baby!
Me:  What?!?!  I can't have an epidural?
Nurse:  Nope, sorry honey.  You can do this.  I know you can!

They called Dr. Mernitz who wasn't there yet but on his way.  Meanwhile, I wanted to start pushing but they wouldn't let me until Dr. Mernitz got there.  3 nurses were taking great care of me and were very encouraging and helpful.

6:42: Dr. Mernitz walks in (Boy, was I relieved!!), double checks that everything is ready, and tells me to push.  And there you were!!  Daddy and I were stunned that you arrived so quickly but more than that, we were so very happy and thankful.  You were beautiful.... you were healthy...and you were ours!  The nurses wrapped you up right away and I got to hold you within seconds.

The next events were a blur... we were still in so much shock of all the events that just took place.  Nurses came in and out... Dr. Mernitz finished helping me... you were weighed... (at first I thought they said you were 8 lbs 4 ounces but that was a different number they were talking about)... you weighed exactly 6 lbs!  The nurses said you were as healthy as can be.  Daddy got to give you your first bath while I watched from the bed and took pictures from my phone.  Whoops... in all of the craziness of the day, we forgot to pack our camera!  No worries though... the nurses and Dr. Mernitz took several with our phones so we have some great shots from our time in the delivery room.

Things started to slow down just a bit and we were able to make a final decision on your name.  Once we started talking about "Brady" we just loved the way it seemed to fit.  Christopher is Dr. Mernitz's name but also we loved the way it sounded with Brady.  We also used this quieter time to send messages and make phone calls to our friends and family.  Everyone was amazed at how quickly you came... I guess you were just ready!! : )

Brady,
Daddy and I couldn't be happier.  We loved you from the very second we knew you'd be joining our family and now that you're here we can't keep our eyes off of you.  You're perfect in every way and can't wait to show you to all of our family and friends... all of the people who love you too.  Lucas and Sophie couldn't wait to meet you and came right away with Grandma yesterday morning.  They couldn't wait to hold and snuggle with you.  What a happy time it was for all of us... our first time together as one complete family.  God was really watching over us on the day you were born... we are so thankful you are here... safe and sound.

We love you, little buddy.
XOXO,
Mommy and Daddy

Introducing #3

Here's Brady Christopher Bland. I'll let Mindy do a more formal post later, but I'm sure there some people that want some pics.

Bland party of 5

Tough, happy momma.

 Happy Big Sister!

Classic cheesy Lucas smile!

Sophie can't get enough of his toes.

Grandma and Lucas checking out Brady.

Everyone is doing well. Mindy was amazing. I'll let her tell you the story, but two more red lights and Brady would have been born in the car.
We thank God for our little blessing.
